We all hate homework, but is it really important that we do it? Is doing homework good for us or is it simply a waste of time? This debate sets out the arguments on both sides.
Homework is an assignment that students are given to do at home. It might be a continuation of classwork or a new piece of work. It may also be preparation for the next class. The amount of homework school students get varies a lot not only from country to country, or from school to school, but often from day to day. For most the amount of time spent on homework gets longer as we go through our school lives. At the start of primary school we get almost no homework but it is often several hours a day by the time we finish secondary school.
The most important thing in this debate is not so much how much time is spent on homework but whether that time is wasted. If it is time well spent then having a lot of homework to do may not be a bad thing. The debate should therefore consider what else school children would do with that time. Another angle would be to look at whether school could replace homework with something that makes better use of time. For example in Britain the education secretary (the member of the government who controls education across the whole country) wants schools to scrap homework and instead have longer days in school.

It's independent practice for the lesson you learned to make sure you understand it.
Yeah it sucks to "waste" your free time, but it is very logical to have some way of verifying that you know the material on your own.
I know I'd do much worse in school if it weren't for homework. Between the practice and free points you get from it.

What really annoys me is when I get homework that I will absolutely never use or need in my entire life. Like a picture...

It depends what the homework is tbh
if its just something shitty like when i first started at my high school i got something from the teacher like 'How does Religious Studies help us?'
**** that
but if its something like ' Practise these types of math question to be sure you know them' then hell yeah its worth it! You wont get anywhere in life if you arent willing to comprimise!

Homework is not a waste of time. Let me ask you this, how are your test/quiz grades? If all of a sudden you forget how to work out a problem during a test, im talking about math of course, its because you lack the understanding of the problem. Homework does suck but if you decide to go to college, homework is a very serious part of your grade. In my opinion, if a teacher says do a set of homework problems, just do it. Just so you know, there are a bunch of resources where you can get the solutions of certain problems. Im not encouraging you to cheat but just so you wont take too long doing your honework. I know some or alot of us tend to daze out when doing homework since its really boring but you actually learn something. As long as you work harder than the person beside you in class, then you should be fine.
Good luck and dont lose focus

It seemed like a waste of time to me before, but i then realized that it actually helped me, the questions that were in the homework are the ones i remembered during a test, once i had remembered the question i instantly knew the answer. Thats how i revise now, for anything that i need to revise, i make up questions for that section then answer them.

I personally support homework. It trains students to have good work ethic. "Well it's causing me a ton of stress and is taking hours" Better get used to it as the next 50 years of your life you'll be working w/o breaks for several hours.
Now, the level of homework can be overwhelming. I do think some homework isn't necessary, but then again, it really does build work ethic that you'll need for you future.

Homework is practice the only way you will ever get better at something is by practicing so I don't think it's a waste of time at all.

I hate people that rant about this... I really do. Homework is incredibly important. It teaches independence and responsibility and helps you learn the material better. Just wait until college, buddy. All of the sudden the 2 pages and notes you have to read right now turns into 150, notes, and a paper you need to write all in one night. And that's not the worse part. You have to PAY to do all that homework in college.
Do yourself a favor and keep on it and make it a habit or it will kick your ass in a few years
