We live in such a great time for technology especially on the social aspect of the internet. I was thinking to myself a while ago about the times my parents would say things like "Don't talk to strangers on the internet" Or "Never put any private information on the internet" but now I think about it and we have things like Facebook, Twitter, Vine, PSN, XBL and so on, so what changed? Why is it such a normal thing to have friends that you'll never meet and sometimes only ever hear their voice? Also why have people become so comfortable posting private information like where they live their phone number and we all know how many pictures of people get posted to the internet every minute. It's something I've been thinking about for a while... So I'd like to hear what other people have to say on the subject.

The fact that I constantly communicate with different people from all over the globe using the internet is something that is hard to believe. I generally talk to most people over multiple types of technology now but I still think that you should never share any personal information with anybody you don't know because for all I know whoever is reading this could be a dog behind a computer screen.

I've spoken to someone on xbl for over 5 years who I will never meet most likely, so I'm not allowed to consider him a friend?

Good logic.

I really don't see the logic in that statement people had friends they would never meet way before the internet like pen palls

Because they're stupid and careless.
Same goes for the people on TTG posting all the topics "What city do you live in", "What kind of car do you have", "What time is it in your area", "How old are you", etc.

Answering on just one topic like that doesn't mean anything, but when you're posting on all of them, it doesn't take much effort to figure out what school you go to, what town you live in, and how to find you.

Although I do agree with you, I dont think it means they are "stupid and careless" I just think its younger people who dont really understand how odd/crazy some people are in this world and what extremes people will go through to find you.. OR if someone of younger age posting these threads, I dont think they understand how creepy it makes them seem when they post them.

I have answered a few of these type of threads and I mean I even posted myself in the TTG photo album, if someone really just doesn't like me and they take the time to do all this research well they are kinda just wasting away at their life.
