apart from the obvious old classics, id say from this era
Single player:

batman arkham asylum, it was simply amazing, extremely well made and thought out.

Multiplayer:
Battlefield Bad Company 2, i know alot of people will say call of duty and thats why this is my reason, this game was not riddled with hacks and glitches, everything balances out, and the graphics are great, i also love that it almost forces you to be a team player.

My thoughts anyway
