So, with AMD releasing 'new' GPU's just around the corner, a few people have managed to get hands on some of the cards and well.. it isn't as expected.
Take the 390X, as it turns out it's the exact same card as the 290X only with a few extra memory chips. This isn't the first time this has been done (7850/270X, 7950/280X etc) but with Nvidia releasing Maxwell, I would have thought that they would have stepped up to the plate with brand new cards...
So, it looks like the same situation, with the Fury cards being new exactly like the 290(x) being different with a Hawaii GPU instead of the tahiti GPU of the older cards..

I mean, I know the mid ranged and lower end cards have been rebrands before but I was really expecting the 390 and 390x to at least be new cards. This is pretty ridiculous news and I was seriously upset when I found out. Well, I guess there's always Pascal or Arctic Islands.

How can they continue to make such minor improvements on OLD architecture and call it new. Hell no I want a whole new architecture, I want it to be all fast and shiny and fast and stuff. God damn it AMD.
No wonder their market share has fallen alot.

7950 = 280
7970 ghz = 280x
But yes only the two top tier cards will be "new" which is kinda bad.

The re-branding is very sneaky & quite irritating, you'd think AMD would try up their game with nvidia releasing the Titan X and 980Ti.

Top tier re-brands are horrid, AMD has had so little innovation over the past few years.

Yeah and I was excited to see what they'd do with the 300 series. Their fury cards will have to out perform the 980ti/Titan x by a huge margin or they'd have to be on par with them and be cheaper at the same time. Otherwise I just don't see them selling as well as they'd like them to. Nvidia already has such a huge market share so I don't know what they're thinking.

I still can't even explain how upsetting this is. It's so bad. AMD really need to step up their game in the next year or so. Over 50% of PC users own an Nvidia card, with something like 25% owning an AMD card and the rest using an iGPU of some sort. It's ridiculous, but it's because AMD pretty much never release anything new, or if they do, their's a similar NVidia card that makes just as much sense, for the most part. I just hope AMD at least do something really good with pricing on all cards, as well as the Fury's, and I hope the Fury cards are good too.
