Someone answer me this.
You're allowed to smoke at any age (preferably 16) and the government only allows 18 years old to buy it. Why is this?

You are allowed to smoke at any age with your parents consent. you are also allowed to drink alcohol at the age of 5 with parents consent/special occasions and allowed to have Cider/Wine/beer at 16 with a meal. hmn....
But the law is age restricted to buy it so it makes it harder for kids to get.
Plus if they changed the age to 16 to buy it, even younger people would be more encorouged to wan't 16 year olds to go buy it for them *and as always they will do it, just like it happends now when 16,17 y/o ask people 18 to buy it for them. 13/14/15 year olds would get people 16 to get it.

I think the whole "cannot buy until 18" thing is just a flat out restriction on everything like alcohol, lighters, cigs stuff like that. I don't think it is strictly cigs being singled out but what do I know I'm Canadian.

I am in the UK. You're not allowed to drink Wine at 16 with a meal 0.o.
Laws here are illogical.

it is illegal to buy it because your body is not fully developed and if you can only drink and smoke with parents consent then they are meant to be responsible for you because your not mature enough.

I live in the UK too... and the age is 16 to drink Wine/Beer/Cider with a meal at restaurant.
I know this is true because when i was 16 on my lunch break we would sometimes go to a Pub/Restaurant (still in school uniform) to get out Dinner + Drink. (And since my we knew the owner well. But if you casually go for a meal with your family you are allowed to drink at 16

You want to know a logic not in just in the uk? Businessmen and all that who work behind the desk for whole day earn more money than soldiers fighting for their countries, police men, fireman's and medical staff. Thats a logic that i do not get.

Just like when marijuana was illegal in WA state (usa), you could use it, but it was illegal to buy or sell it for a while. That goes without saying that if a federal agent comes knocking on my door and I'm smoking pot (let's pretend I'm 21), he can still arrest me because it is still federally illegal.
It all comes down to politics, and money.

It's ridiculous, the government are also bringing out a new law stating that you cannot smoke in a private motor vehicle while there is someone under the age of 18 in the car or you get a 50 pound fine! The British government is beyond a joke

The British government is beyond a jokeBanned smoking in cars with under 18.... but what if the passenger is 16/17 and smoking? or both smoking... don't think they are going to be strict with the new law
its more for parents that are smoking with "Young" children and baby's.
but if you are just sitting in your car hotboxing it with a 4 year old in the back seat then you deserve a £50 fine..
