i need help as my friend is lending me his disc when i get my pc. i am on a tight budget so is it necessary for an optical drive?

Not necessarily. Using a disk drive in another PC you can copy the contents of the CD to a bootable USB drive.

Don't even need the CD. You can go and use the media creation tool and it creates a bootable USB for you. Make sure you have large enough USB and everything should be a breeze. Once your computer posts go into the BIOS/UEFI and set USB as your primary boot device.

Why are you even asking a question like this... If you have a disc then you need a optical drive to use it.
