I'm 18, turning 19 on the 22nd and am looking for a career. I am currently working a part time job at FedEx Ground as a package handler. It's laborious as f***! So I asked my dad what I should do. He told me I should try for an apprenticeship in either carpentry or plumbing. I had 4 years of carpentry in high school but I really didn't like it. So carpentry is last resort before I go homeless. He also suggested I go into the Navy and get some experience in engineering. That's what he did when he was younger and now he is making really good money. So the question is, should I try for the US Navy or go for an apprenticeship? Also I'd need to go into a trade school for an apprenticeship which is money I don't really want to spend. Any help?

Sounds like a solid plan to me man.
The navy is difficult make sure you are committed.

Well in the UK plumbing is good money, not sure about US. Again not a lot will be the same, i completed an apprenticeship and come out with good qualifications.
In the UK i would say they're worth it but don't let your employer do it for cheap labor (Over here the min wage for apprentices is very low), if you will get good stuff from it and it's what you want to do i say go for it.

Do what you want don't ever do something you don't like or what other people tell you to do!

If you like it, go for it. You will never be happy working something you dislike.

For High Paying, *When Fully qualified in:
plumbing Will Get you Lots of Monieszz
But starting out will most probably less than your current wages at FedEx,

You need to consider the qualifications of joining military first. I made it my goal to join the military right out of high school and then I find I can't join due to medical surgeries in the past. So now I'm looking for temp agencies to put on a job to see if I can make that my full time job. Look into those things before dead set making your mind up to join the military.
