So my 5s randomly shut off on my and its a permanent black screen, tried new ones, new battery, etc. I work on these all the time so I am not a noob. Anyways, I pay 20$ EXTRA a month (have for 16 months) and I went to see my deductible and its $175. This isnt user damage, its the phone failing. Itd be one thing if I got it wet or such, but I didnt. In an otterbox, with a tempered glass protector. Been in it since day one. Still I have to pay 175 to replace it tommorrow for a USED phone. Without insurance it cost 330 to replace the phone. LETS DO MATHHHH
20(16)= 320
No insurance is 330 TOTAL.
Insurance is deductible plus a HIGHER PRICE finance fee for the next few months until our contract ends. SO I will go from 30.00 a month plus insuarnce ($50 total a month) to 65 a month total.
So. Replacement phone= 175.
I have paid 320 in the past 16 months for insurance. 175+320= 495.
The phone withput an insurance plan is 330. I am overpaying almost the same I am paying for my deductible vs someone without insurance! THIS makes no sense at all! I cant even back out of my insurance either. SO now, I give them $500 for a replacement phone, vs $330, and my plan goes up $15 for the next 8 months. Thats $120 extra. NOW
Original phone= 80 for tax, activation. I have paid 16 months, 30 a month, thats 480. Now, I have 45 a month for my PHONE ONLY now, and the 20$ for insurance. SO 65(8)= 520.
520+80+480=175= $1,255
The phone cost 700 new. Thats a $475 profit from just financing the phone. ONE PHONE. This doesnt invclude contract pricing. Im pissed. I did nothing to the phone, its its own fault, and I have to shell out more with insurance than I would someone without it. UGH!!

Welcome to the world. I get my phones second hand, always. I've never spent more than $100 on a phone, and I usually have the latest smart phones. Mine usually last a while too. but once I notice it starts slowing down, I sell them and get a new one. As for the replacement..Their giving you a used phone? My contract gives me a brand new one. Same model that I would have to replace.

Sorry to hear your situation, but this is why I am not on contract or paying for phone insurance. With the money I save from not paying for insurance, if something happened to my current iPhone I could just go and get a whole new phone for the price I would pay to get a refurbished phone for "free" with the insurance.
