I don't know what kind of mass and velocity an object would need to kill a planet. A bullet isn't very big, but it's fast and can hurt you. A car doesn't need to go very fast to hurt you. I would assume a smaller and faster object would be more dangerous to earth because it might be detected later and give less time to react.

Well the meteor which wiped out the dinosaurs was about the size of New York [if all of those documentaries I watched as a kid were correct.]
It wouldn't be hard to see humans being wiped out, or at least being reduced by a significant number in the event of that happening again.

Like we could trust nasa? They wouldn't just say their is going to be an asteroid hitting the earth that would cause mass panic around the world we will just have to wait and see.
