If you're gaming mainly, I would update since Windows 10 has DX12, even if you're were not looking to game I would still update

Stay on Win 8.1 till the bugs have been worked out on 10.
I'm tempted to do a fresh install of 10 but just holding back.

I'm surprised to see that so many people are having problems with Windows 10.
I have installed W10 on two different machines. I upgraded from 7 to 10 on my old gaming rig and it worked just fine. I had no issues. Then I built a fresh gaming rig and installed Windows 10 straight from the disk i bought. It works great. I have had no problems with it.
From what I've seen people with laptops had problems with it. Maybe if you are on a laptop you shouldn't but on desktop I have had no problems at all.

I think so. I think maybe the cpus were getting too hot on the laptops fan couldnt keep up. I have never had heat issues. My CPU runs at a cool 65 at max. Any thing with a after market fan should be fine. But I don't know I'm no expert.
If worse comes to worse, try it out and if it causes problems just go back to 8.1

I've been running windows 10 flawlessly. I had a bump at the start, but it's been smooth sailing ever since. :cat:

No real reason to stay with 8.1, Just go for it.
