Okay well basically me Thermo fan was not kicking in. I have a 1997 Holden Astra Sedan,
Like a few months back it was overheating badly. While I was on a highway driving and the temperature would rise to near the 100 degree mark. I would pull over wait for a while to let it cool down before continuing. I did that a few times that day.
The next day I flushed the radiator out to see if it was clogged or anything it checked for a cracked head gasket but it was all fine. Flushed it all out and replaced the coolant.
Then I did a check to see if the Thermo fan works and it wouldn't kick in. I left it like that for about 2 months and it was fine, no problems, engine kept cool.
Then the other day the engine started to warm up again. I've been putting off fixing the thermo fan for a while. So yesterday I took it to an auto electrician to see what the problem was. He did all the testing and the fan was working. It would kick in at 101 degrees and bring it down to 86 degrees. All the wiring was fine and everything was perfect about the fan.
But when it got warm there was a jiggling noise from the engine. Turns out there is a crack. While I was driving I heard a faint sound every now and then but didn't make anything of it. But with the bonet up and in shed the noise was noticeable. And there is a crack (I forgot what it was called, but it wasnt anything that is major) Anyways he said its just the vibration causing the noise. So he said he can easily fix it together with screws. Obviously that is a quick fix, which I dont mind since I'm planning on buying a new car within a year.
So it total I'm paying $50 to fix the crack, which is fine.
But paying $200 for the Thermo fan test. I appreciate all the detail he went to. But like I'm not mad about paying $200, it is just prior I researched and people were saying they pay around $70-$100 to test out the Thermo fan.
I'm going in later this afternoon to arrange payment and pick it up. (Can only pay $150, then hoping I can take it home and then go back tomorrow and pay the rest off since I get paid tonight)
