I respect mechanics, they do what many, many people can not.

I take my show car to a mechanic shop that specializes in high performance muscle cars, and all the workers need 25+ years experience before they can work at the shop.

I know they aren't abusing my car such as smoking the tires or racing it down the street like I would get from other shops.

My dad has been a mechanic for 25+ years, even worked on trucks in the Army for 8.

He can't find a job worth shit. He's also certified.

I wanted to be one as well, but he said the job market is shit right now.

Especially with all these hybrid cars coming out.

He has one. He's just not doing what he's spent most of his life doing. All the offers he gets are for some lowball, oil change guy.

My buddies and i are pretty good at fixing cars and we always get random people asking us to fix there cars for them for a cheap place. One friend works at a ford dealership and the other works at a motorcycle shop and i work a a machining shop. It can sometimes get annoying when people ask us to do stuff for a cheap price since we all work 50hr+ weeks and i go to school full time too.

You are going to hate working on your own car if you end up becoming a mechanic. Since you work on others all day long

25+ years experience sounds like a load of bs tbf, so all the mechanics there are 50 ish then?
Also, when they all retire then what will the shop do, not many people nowadays have 25+ years of experience due to being in a younger generation and most people who have that experience aren't wrenching as such but a shop manager/owner...

They only work on specialty vehicles and make good money. They love what they do, and they don't do it for the money. They treat every car like their own and they are some of the best mechanics in the states. It is a group of 5-12 elite mechanics/painters/welders, etc working in the shop. They are in their late 40's, not old at all if that's what you were implying...It is easy to get 25 years experience if you grad. from high school and go straight into mech. school and begin working at dealerships/other shops and build a rep. for yourself.

you have to be good to work there, not just work there because you need a job.
