Vexaah wrote Get another dog, and try to forget about him/her (not in a mean way) so you over come it, many of my dogs have died, and over time I forgot, get a new pet! ;)
The idea isn't to forget. It's to get past the pain, that comes over time OP.
I've had a few dogs in my life and each one is/was as special to me as all of the others.
Your pets have a personality that you don't really forget, at least I don't. I distinctly remember my King Charles Spaniel - He had such a temper with most people but was such a damn softy. He'd growl at you in a playful manner until you started fighting with him. Damn I loved that dog. :')

Sorry to hear that buddy.
My friend was in a similiar situation, and though it is difficult, someone else suggested to him for him to get over the passing of a his dog, he should get another dog, and so he did and every time i see him, he is all smiles. Now, for someone like me, its hard to replace a dog that has been in your family for a long time.
Trust me, you will get over it. Dont stay at home all the time, try to go out.
Good luck buddy

Just think about all of the good times you had with your dog.
