I'm building my first PC here in the new couple of weeks & i've been going back & forth between the Seagate Barracuda & WD Black.
I've been reading reviews on both of the drives & a lot of people have been saying that the Seagate Barracuda dies after about a year of use.
Now on the other hand, people have been saying the WD Black is very noisy.
So the main question I have is, is the WD Black worth the extra money?

Not really. I've had Seagate drives for a while, some over 2 years old, and they are pretty cheap. I usually put them in other builds because they are not as bad as people say they are.
The WDs arent worth the extra money unless your budget allows for it, or you need the r/w speed for some use.
Either are fine.

I've used Barracuda's for years and never had an issue. If you want a quieter HDD, get a WD Green.
WD Blacks are often pretty pricey and there's no real need to spend the extra IMO. I used a 1TB Barracuda for 4 years and it was absolutely fine.

Also, it is worthwhile knowing that WD Blacks are rather loud drives.

All hard drives are noisy so you'll have to deal with it I'm afraid. A case with sound dampening will help, or get an SSD.
