Synopsis:

As a man or woman stranded naked, freezing and starving on the shores of a mysterious island called ARK, you must hunt, harvest resources, craft items, grow crops, research technologies, and build shelters to withstand the elements. Use your cunning and resources to kill or tame & breed the leviathan dinosaurs and other primeval creatures roaming the land, and team up with or prey on hundreds of other players to survive, dominate... and escape!

Story:

Welcome to the world of Ark. As you wake up stranded and confused you realize you have a implant in your arm and that you are alone. It is your job to survive and dominate as you progress and explore you will encounter a lot of different obstacles that will most likely kill you if you are not careful. You must avoid dinosaurs that want to eat you as well as other players who might be out hunting for new survivors to kill. As you begin to build your new home and start taming dinosaurs to help you defend your home and attack threats to your survival you will soon realize that in order to survive you must do what ever it takes.

Gameplay:

Ark Survival Evolved is not your typical survival game such as Rust or DayZ. I have roughly 700 hours on this game and I have never had so much fun on a game before. When you first open the game and join a server you will spawn on a beach all alone and afraid. When you first wake up you will have to survive off of berries and innocent dodos that you will have to kill in order to cook meat so you can survive. Though this game is single player I would defiantly recommend playing online and forming a tribe either with your friends which is always the way to go, but if that is not a option try joining a tribe that is already established on the server. By doing so not only will you level faster with the bonus tribe xp. But you will also be stronger with a group and can get more done. But if you would rather play solo online you can always play on a PVE server instead of a PVP. to build your first house you will want to collect material such as wood, fiber, and thatch so you can start creating a temporary home. Once you have established a decent base and have all the essentials such as food, water, and clothes you will probably want to go tame your first dinosaur. Sense you will not have many resources to use on a dinosaur you will want to try to tame something that is simple such as a Raptor or a Trike. Dinosaurs are a huge game changer in this game because they all do something different that will help you collect resources. For example the Raptor will harvest meat and hide for you while the trike will collect berries so you can make tranq arrows and narcotics.

Once you have tamed a few dinosaurs and have gotten a bit use to the game you might be ready to challenge yourself and have you and your tribe tame your first T-rex or Spino. This can be a bit hard and possibly scary your first time trying to tame one of these beast but it will really be worth it if you are successful. Bigger tribes will have multiple T-rexes and Spinos that will help protect their base as well as help them attack other tribes if they are at war. Now Ark has updates all the time that adds new dinosaurs that change the gameplay completely and a recent dinosaur that was added is called the giganotosaurus. This beast is now the king of all dinosaurs and is what every tribe is wanting to have for defense purposes but especially for attacking enemy bases. These guys are not something to mess around with they are extremely powerful and will show your power as a tribe. If you get to the point that you are built and established and have a lot of dinosaurs and are finally getting ready to raid other bases for what ever the reason is be prepared for anything. This game can really throw anything at you that will throw you off especially if you are not prepared for it. With there being so many different ways to attack another tribe you will have options to choose from and once you decide make sure you have the material needed to successfully raid your enemy. Now with all this said a big difference in this game is that unlike Rust where everyone kills each other on site most players on Ark are really friendly and will often help you as long as you keep to yourself and are not spamming global. With this said this means you can really begin to build and enjoy the game and all it has to offer. Though I have only really covered most of the basics there is a lot I did not cover that you can truly only experience by playing the game. Honestly overall this game is one of the best survival games I have ever played. The gameplay is so much fun and taming dinosaurs will make you feel like they are the most valuable thing to you on the game. There is just so much to do on this game and I would really try to get your friends to play the game with you.

Graphics:

I will warn you right now as of now Ark Survival Evolved is NOT YET OPTOMIZED. But this graphical review will be for a card that can support graphical settings between high and max. Now for the graphics of Ark they are beyond amazing. When you first wake up and the sun is shining down on you it will take you by surprise by just how good this game looks. Everything from the shadows for everything to maybe just the breeze moving the leaves of the trees. Everything in this game is detailed and looks just awesome. The Developers are working hard on this game and are trying their best to get the game optimized and recently have fixed some major optimization issues. Really this is the only issue I have had with this game. But after upgrading my card I was taken back by the amount of detail and attention put into every little thing. My favorite things to look at are the dinosaurs. When you walk up to them you can see all the detail that has been put into them. There is a day and night cycle that works and transitions really well and is really smooth. At night when you run around with a torch or if you see someone with a torch it is really cool looking watching the torch light up a small area as it is moving through the woods. Overall this game has some really awesome graphics that will impress you. The developers really paid attention to detail and it really shows.

Controls:

The controls for Ark Survival Evolved though simple are also a bit complex. Your basic controls are the normal WASD keys to move and the mouse to look around. The mouse also is used to pick things up and interact with a lot of things in the game. But it does get a bit more complicated from there. You do have hotkeys that you can put items on to make it quicker to be able to use things. There is also keys that are used to whistle dinosaurs to do certain things and also keys to run, crouch, and even punch. So as you can see the controls for this game are a bit complex to learn but after playing for a while you will eventually learn them and they will be come easy to retain. I honestly had no issues at all learning these controls.

Overall: 10/10

Extras:

There was a lot I did not mention because it will keep somethings as a surprise for you as you play your first time through. Though this review was for PC I can only assume this game is good on consoles as well (not sure if console is released yet). I really do recommend this game to anyone who likes survival games but be warn once you start playing you will lose track of time really fast.

For me this game is too confusing and hard to get used to. It's fun to play with friends.

Never actually owned this game, but playing it at a friends was rather fun.

Can see how it would get boring quickly though.

I think it depends on your experience with the game. I am in a tribe that controlled a offical server for a long time. So I could basically do what ever I wanted. Which makes it more fun when you can use every element in the game.

I saw this game on the Xbox Marketplace for Xbox One, I was debating buying it and now I think that I will! There's also a trial for anyone who's unsure like I was.
