Well the way I see it, I don't mind either one besides I make fun of "Happy holidays" because where I live its extremely weird to say "Merry Christmas" without getting a stare down. So for me I've mainly said "Merry Christmas" but I know "Happy Holidays" is probably the more "correct" term for things considering everyone doesn't celebrate Christmas. On the other hand people in my small town are way way more lenient if their for example Jewish or don't celebrate Christmas, in the city they would be pissed of demanding to see your boss if you said merry Christmas. "Blah blah, its my right as a customer to be a ass to your boss because I feel "offended" more like I wan't free stuff, but shhh don't tell em that, just keep yelling." That is literally the mentality in the city around Christmas, so frankly you couldn't say anything different, they probably would stare you down if you didn't say anything, or either of the other options. Frankly I can see why workers dislike working during the holiday session, not only is it super busy but you have to deal with people who just want to be jerks.

Like I said people are a lot more aggressive during Christmas time. I am Christian myself but if someone says happy holidays I don't view it like super religious people do, its not going to "offend" me if you say happy holidays. Your just dealing with the asses who are super religious. Also I wanted to ask, if you say Christmas is not a christian holiday then why don't you celebrate it? Christmas for most families is just free gifts and hanging out with family, I fully understand if you don't, I'm just wondering.

To me it's like when someone sneezes and a person says "God bless you."

I bet half the people I say it to or say it to me may not even believe in a "God" or are religious. It's become a manners thing.

Saying Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays is the nice thing to do in my eyes.

Honestly, if I said "Happy Holidays" to someone and they tried to stare me down like what happened to you, and say "Merry Christmas", I'd just hold their stare the whole time, wait for them to finish, smile, and say "Thanks! and hey, Happy Holidays."
