Been looking everywhere to find this but can't. People say just invite them into your lobby but its always full.

You're meant to do something like invite them to crew play on the main menu, and then join a session or something.
If i had a friend i'd try it now to confirm it, but I don't, but it looks like its the way you do it

If you wanna play with any friends on the game you have to restart your game and stay at the starting menu, and youre gonna want to go to crew and add them to your crew, they will appear there and then just start the game
