Do you really need to pay?

You can always get Windows 8/8.1 the free way, put it on to a USB stick and install that, then upgrade to Windows 10.

That's what I would do. No point in paying for an OS for personal use really.

If you don't know how to, or don't want to, get Windows for free, you can go somewhere like [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] and get a key for pretty cheap.

I'd recommend Windows 10 over 8.1. I switched the other day and I absolutely love it. In many cases you can get it for free. If you already have a copy of Windows 7 or 8, open IE and see if it prompts you for a free Windows 10 upgrade.

If your PC is compatible, Windows 10 is free for a short time if you'd like to try that out.

I would suggest getting your OS the free way. If you must pay for it, the subreddit linked above, or G2A is your best bet for buying a key.

You can download the tool on that page, and use that to download an ISO for Win8.1, then use something like Rufus to make a bootable USB. You might even be able to select your USB through that tool and not need to bother with using an application like Rufus. Then just use the key you purchased from Reddit/G2A to activate the OS when you're installing it. Then you can either stay with Windows 8.1, or upgrade to Win10 for free, which is what I'd suggest.
