Rep and thanks are features that are often overlooked on here because somebody who has a lot of rep may not always be the best or most trustworthy person while a user with little rep could be (or the other way around) but I definitely think that when a user posts a helpful topic it shows a lot of support and respect when people like it because most of the time that user put a lot of effort into that post.
