So I live in the U.K and I like to shop online. I always buy stuff from the U.S but the fact that I have to pay to receive my stuff is really beginning to annoy me.
So basically if you didn't know, in the U.K you have to pay tax or vat on a lot of items shipped from outside the EU. I just think this is the most ridiculous thing ever.
I'm already paying £20 or more for shipping prices then I have to pay an extra amount on top of that just to receive the package.
An example of this: So I'm into street magic and whatnot so I buy a lot of playing cards, there is one website in particular that I like so I buy stuff from. I ended up spending about £200 on stuff from their website plus the £35 shipping. Then when the delivery guy came he said I have to pay another £45 to him for customs charges. I just find it absurd that I have to give the government money because I'm buying from a different country.
Anyway this rant didn't really have any substance and probably didn't make much sense but I had to get it off my chest.

It's meant to encourage people to buy from UK companies to encourage the growth of our own economy.
But at the same time they know that UK companies don't produce everything we want to buy so they get you to pay the tax instead.
It's a win/win for them and a lose/lose for us.
They get money either way. We have to choose between limited products, or paying more.

I know the shipping is a bit but, I've received things from America via. Royal Mail and never had to pay any custom charges?

The courier that charged that was UPS I believe. The actual item was worth £200 but yea I end up paying import tax on stuff from them and when I buy G-Fuel

Well if you're buying off of ebay or somewhere similar you could ask the person you're buying from if hes willing to fake the amount of money you paid so you dont have to pay for import taxes. it works in my country not sure about the UK tho
