Seeing that there isnt a sub-fourm for PS3 support & tutorials, does anybody know why my fat PS3 reflow only lasted 5 minutes?
I bought it on ebay for like £20 and it came with CoD 4 and was YLOD. I opened it, cleaned it, did a rough job at removing the thermal paste and applied very little as I didnt have much paste, plus the paste was very cheap. After re-assembling the PS3 worked till I went to update and it shut off again (YLOD)

I went onto eBay and purchased a YLOD repair kit which comes with alcohol wipes, flux and 2 tubes of thermal paste for £4. IF I was to flux up the CPU and GPU, thoroughly clean off all old thermal paste with the alcohol wipes and clean up the board + install my fan mod to increase the fan speed, will it bring my original fat, PS3 back to life? I only want it to play LBP and some PS3 titles with my girlfriend. If admin isn't okay with this being here I'll delete, I just cant seem to find help anywhere else

I got the PS3 working in the end, had it running on 10v fan speed, keeping it cool! Works all good now cheers for the support

Did even know this existed. I have had my PS3 since the day they came out. I am almost constantly on it and never had this problem. It did start to overheat at one point but a quick dismantle and clean fixed that. Also, glad to hear that you got it working bud!
