$1500 budget after mail in rebates, but i like where its going. Why not the i7 4790k if i might ask? Performance or ?

The 4790k is older than the 6600k, no point going wIth a last generation CPU. If anything, you can just spend the extra $100 of your budget on the 6700k which is the newer version of the 4790k, but an i5 would be fine for your needs.
