I drive a 91 Camaro as my daily and lately the transmission has been acting strange.
Makes a kinda groaning noise underneath when I put it in neutral or stop at a red light .
And now just hours ago something decided to stop working, i was driving home and when I barely hit the gas about half way down the RPM's go crazy up and down after about 2000 and the car is jolting back and forth and I can't figure out why it's doing that but it seems to be coming from under me

Here's what it looks like [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

All though earlier this week I did take it to the long desert roads here for a top speed test but it still drove fine days after till tonight and I've done it many times before

If anyone knows what it could be please let me know

Also I just recently did a major tune up about 2 weeks ago

How long has the groaning noise been happening? I was tempted to say bad trans, however based on the video and saying it drove fine days after, it kind of sounds to me like bad gas. or a clogged fuel filter / injector(s).

How long have you owned the car and when was the last time the fuel filter was replaced?

if you have gotten gas at a place you usually dont lately its bad gas, or you arent getting fluent fuel to your injectors, it happended to me and the would lug and would idle really low and not want to accelerate fast,

if you havent got gas lately, check your injectors and fuel lines hope it works out

It has a new wireset, sparkplugs, distributor cap and rotor, fuel filter and oil but idk about the injectors and in the video the car jerks pretty violently. I put gas around Tuesday and hasn't acted like that. I've owned the car not even a year and have done lots of repairs. My friend said it's possible gears slipping

When it does this, what happens if you punch the gas? Doe it still sputter like that, does it get up to top speed, or does it stay at a low speed?

If it's jolting around and the RPMs are going wack, I'm still thinking it's a fuel issue. Water in your fuel will wreak havoc. AM/PM (Arco) is known for having bad gas. It only takes a little water and once some fuel is gone and that water to fuel mixture is higher, you'll notice a big difference (it will act like your car is now). I've had this issue on my old truck and my grandpas boat, both where water in the fuel and fouled out the spark plugs.

Just out of curiosity, did you get new spark plugs / wires and then right after that the car started doing this? The spark plug wires are a specific length for each plug, and I've seen people not pay attention to that and have a lot of problems.

How's it through the gears? Do you have the same issue in every gear, or just the low ones (1-3)?

It's quite violent from what I can see in the video. Could be a variety of things, 002 mentioned the most common ones.

I'm not qualified enough for these kind of problems lol, but at another guess I would say the clutch or flywheel. Clutch being that it's slipping on part of the friction plate and causing a jolt? Just a random guess off the top of my head. It's worth sending that in to the garage immediately though.

It does it around after 2000 RPM and I've been and only used chevron since I got the car. I took it to a shop for the tune up but it ran great after I got the car back

I'm not sure yet, I haven't driven it since I recorded the video last night but I'm about to take it for a spin and find out the problem

If it runs fine up to 2k RPM that sound 100% like a fuel issue. If you can keep the car under 2k RPM does it act like it should? At lower RPM's you're not using a whole lot of gas, so there's not a whole lot of mixture going on if you understand what I mean. Look at it like a spray bottle, at low RPM's it's only maybe a quarter squirt so there's not much fuel going in which in turn doesn't put out much power so the problem is still there, but you can't feel it. At high RPM's it's like a full squirt so there's a lot more water (or what ever the case may be) in the fuel so it's throwing off the mixtures. Remember an engine needs X amount of air and X amount of fuel. It's getting the air, and it thinks it's getting the fuel, but it's diluted fuel so it's not what it should be getting, in turn making it spit and sputter and jump around.

This of course is best case scenario, I've had it happen a couple times. I personally would drop the tank and empty the fuel and get new fuel to see if that's the issue as the other options are fixed, or super expensive. One way to find out very fast is disconnect the feed line from the fuel filter (super easy to do), and have that line go into a glass jar or something. Gas will melt plastic so that won't work. Water is heavier than gas, so if you fill up say a mason jar with the gas from your tank, you should be able to see either 1 liquid (being pure gas), or two (water and gas).

I just got word from my mechanic saying it's a temperature sensor, when he moved it, it wouldn't deliver gas but he said its throwing too much gas when it's on so I'm just gonna grab a new one and hope for the best
