Was just wondering if overclocking the I5 4670K on the Gigabyte GA-Z87-HD3 is safe I'm running the stock cooler as well.

Will +Rep for Helpful feedback.

Overclocking with the stock cooler is a bad idea. Purchase an after-market one then you're good to go as long as you keep it stable and below recommended temps

The mobo is fine.

Stock cooler is barely safe for stock clocks so you won't be doing any safe overclocking with the stock cooler. Also you can't just assume you'll reach 4.2GHz. It varies wildly from chip to chip. What you have to do is get an aftermarket cooler, and then start bumping the multiplier up a small amount, benchmarking to make sure it's stable and then bump up the multiplier a little more. Keep bumping up the multiplier and benchmarking until it becomes unstable or too hot and find your limit.

Yes, overclocking is safe as long as you do it properly.

I, personally got my 4790k to 4.9GHz on a Kraken X61 but temps became undesirable so I let my CPU sit at 4.7GHz so that it never gets too warm and still performs amazingly.
