I have just been watching a few videos and asking some friends before I start putting everything together and they all mention grounding. I know it is for the static electricity, but how worried should I be?
What precautions should I be taking? is it really worth it to go get one of the bracelets that some people wear?
I will most likely be putting everything together on my desk (wood) but my floor is all carpet aside from the mat under my desk for the office chair. Is this fine?

When I built my pc I didn't really pay attention to grounding and my computer work fine 2 years and going but if you're really concerned you can ground yourself without a the bracelet you can actually ground yourself with the metals in cases and / Power supply

You don't need an anti static wrist/ankle strap. Just make sure to touch base metal on your case every now and again to ground yourself. And maybe stand on some cardboard or something instead of the carpet.

Whenever I built my computer, I was way too worried about it. I was on carpet with bare feet, all I did to ensure nothing happened was touch the PSU every now and then and after I went to go get something. My computer is working fine, I also helped my cousin build his computer on carpet. He did ground himself much and it works perfectly fine. Don't be worried, just touch your PSU with both hands before working on something more sensitive.
