So I moved out to a new place and when I got here I noticed I couldn't join friends and what not only to discover that my NAT was closed, my new apartment has its own wifi and cable and such but in an attempt to open the NAT i bought a new NETGEAR router but it still says closed, what should I do?

YouTube it, use your router brand when searching. I had the same problem as you, couldnt connect to some of my friends because my NAT was closed, I did this when I was 14 and it worked perfectly after. I was able to connect to the friends that I couldnt connect to before. Hope this helps.

My NAT was strict and I managed to make it open immediately by assigning my Xbox a static IP address. I don't remember if I opened the ports in my gateway settings but for now just try making your Xbox Ip static. Right now it's probably set to automatic. Set it up manually.

You have to either set your Xbox IP as the routers DMZ server, or manually open up the ports for Xbox (3074, 443, etc)
