If you like the Military / Police then try these:

Ultimate force - Focuses on 22 regiment aka SAS
The Unit - US version of Ultimate force
Strike back - 2 man special ops
Flash point - Special response unit of Canadian police force

Apart from that the other suggestions are pretty good such as Prison break/ The 100

This isn't a series but just a 3 part special try watching murder of JonBenet I watched it a while back and it was interesting makes you think what goes through people minds and why even attempt / do stuff like that in the first place but here's a wee description you can read might catch you're eye
