Xynf's Rant

So today is my moms birthday and we were about to go out to eat but right as we were going out the door her phone rings and guess who it is... her work calling to tell her to come in.This normally would not be a problem but she requested for the day off and they think that they can still call her into work! Now what I am wondering is that if anything like this has happened to you guys, because I was talking to a friend and he had it happen except with his dad. Maybe it is my personal opinion but if someone request off of work a month before and the company they work for accepts it they should not be able to call that person in.

I am going to add a poll because I figured I would like to see what you think plus this would be a good first post besides my mod shop which isnt really a post.

It all just depends on what job your mom has. If it a normal job like an accountant or server, then they shouldnt have made her go in. Especially if they had previously told her that she could have the day off

Have her not answer the phone next time! What I do, as well as my father, is we just act as if we do not exist that day.

You are not having a "day off" if you ware still worried about calls coming from work. It all has to do with improving your mental health after a heavy workload. In this case, it was her birthday. Her workplace should respect her enough to not call her for assistance or to come in.

Well what does she do? If she is like a doctor in the ER and she's the only doctor that could help someone dying, seems like it would make sense to call her.
Just my two cents though. I personally don't pick up my phone or text back when it's my day off & my coworkers are ringing me.

It really depends. From an employer standpoint they probably didn't want to call her in but maybe someone got sick or had other issues so they were down a person.

Also if your mom already took her days off, why should she get more?

I accidentally voted YES rather than NO. Work shouldn't be allowed but as others said above its your day off should've just not answered the phone if her work was calling or if it said No Caller ID.

Also it isn't mandatory to tell them you can come in, she could've just said she couldn't make it.

It depends on the job, no matter what if my work calls I will answer, and if it's them asking me to come in it is based on the situation for me, if they are needing people or some type of emergency has happened you can count me in, but if it's just for an extra body that might not be needed, well yeah no; or if I have plans I would tell them so.
