Publishers: Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Feral Interactive
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, Macintosh operating systems, Linux
Synopsis
Mad Max is an open world action-adventure video game based on the Mad Max franchise. Developed by Avalanche Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, it was released on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in September 2015. The game is powered by Avalanche Engine.
It is set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland consisting of deserts, canyons, and caves. Players control Max Rockatansky as he progresses through the wasteland to seek revenge on a gang of raiders, led by Scabrous Scotus, who robbed him of his possessions, and along with his assistant Chumbucket, he aims to build the ultimate car: the Magnum Opus. Mad Max emphasizes vehicular combat, in which the player uses weapon and armor upgrades on their car to fight enemies, while on-foot combat combines professional wrestling attacks and boxing techniques. The game features extensive car and character customization, and soft boundaries, also known as the "Big Nothing", a theoretically endless place which players can explore.
Two other Mad Max games, developed by Cory Barlog and Interplay Entertainment respectively, were in production before the announcement of this game, but neither of them was successfully released. Although Mad Max is not based on the film series, it was inspired by its universe, and franchise creator George Miller was consulted during the game's pre-production. Avalanche Studios found developing a vehicular combat video game a challenge because of their inexperience with creating that type of game. Announced at the 2013 Electronic Entertainment Expo, the game was re-tooled during development and the envisioned PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions were canceled due to hardware limitations.
Originally planned a release in 2014, it was released in September the following year, several months after the theatrical release of Mad Max: Fury Road, the fourth film in the series. Mad Max received mixed-to-positive reviews from critics. Although the game's environment, direction, vehicular combat, and graphics were praised, its quest design and story were criticized. The game became the eighth-best-selling retail game in the US in September 2015.
Game-Play
Mad Max is an open world game where upon you need a "car", There aren't loads of story missions, but plenty of side missions and collectibles to find. There's a great hand to hand combat scene's that is very similar to the well-known batman games. I find it best to do the side missions before the story mode, to make the game easier to complete later story mode missions, that has helped me platinized the game. The side missions involve convoy missions where you need to smash a particular vehicle that is protected with vehicles from other gang members, you also have enemy bases to overthrow to collect special items to help improve yourself and your stronghold for that segment of the main map. You also have races to compete in, You can hijack vehicles and take them back to your stronghold to go in your unique style vehicle collection, whereupon there is a vehicle that has your trusted dog that helps you find mines in car graveyards as one type of side missions. Other than your trusted dog you have an engineer that will help repair your vehicle as you roam the wasteland. You also need to keep an eye on your vehicles fuel gauge by collecting jerry cans so you don't get stuck out in the wasteland. Away to open up side missions you will come across traveller's that will often be thirsty and if you offer them the water that you collect throughout the map from water locations that will help you revive your health, then they will help highlight missions and collectibles on the map in that segment of the main map. You will also find the odd encounter with little missions for you to do scattered around the map. To help you progress in the area, it is best to pull down the scarecrow towers with you vehicles grappling hook tool. You also have a little basis with little hot air balloons that if you can overrun them, then you are able to use the hot air balloon to get a high view of the map that things will then appear and become highlighted on the map for things for you to go and explore.
Plot
The plot of the game is to retrieve your car back from the main bad character in the game by searching for the V8 engine for the Magnum Opus, even though there are many bosses in the game, in different segments of the main map. As you play the game you'll need to improve your vehicle by collecting objects by doing certain missions throughout the maps.
Graphics
The graphics are really smooth and crisp, the sand storms look really good and felt really realistic and I strongly recommend to find shelter when they happen, overall the weather climate is amazing and very detailed. The charters and vehicles are also really high in detail and look really realistic, overall the graphics make the game pleasant, and enjoyable to play.

Excellent review Mikey, this has always been a game that looks great but I never bought. Being an open world game with great graphics I feel kinda dumb not getting it now, might have to pick it up during the steam summer sale
