I already have a computer built but it was built forever ago. I upgraded to a NVIDIA GTX 1050ti. I don't know my motherboard so I can get a new one if I have to, but I want to upgrade my cpu so I can run games better because having this 1050ti does nothing for me because of my trash cpu. I need a good cpu and if I need to a new motherboard. Please help me.

GPU Nvidia Gtx 1050ti
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 255 Processor, 3114 MHz

How much do you want to spend?
What is the main purpose of the machine?

You probably want to update your motherboard as well. The AM3 socket is ancient. I would suggest going to intel cpu.

If you have to stick to that socket, the best CPU for AM3 is probably the Phenom II X6 1100T.

You can buy one off Amazon used as low as $150: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

You can see the performance difference between that CPU and your current CPU here: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
