First thing, yes i know, ew... a mac. I bought it for college and dont want to invest in a gaming computer. Im looking to run minecraft and i notice my computer gets really hot so i want to allocate more RAM to minecraft so it might help run smoother. I have a macbook air with 8gb of RAM and 2.2 GHz i7, I have followed multiple tutorials on google on how to allocate more ram to minecraft and they all have failed. Anyone care to share some insight?

I recommend installing Optifine. The Macbook Air isn't known for its amazing graphical processing power. Optifine will help Minecraft run smoother on lower end machines. As for increasing memory you can easily do it by going to the launcher options advanced options and changing the -Xmx1G to something else. That means that it has 1Gb of RAM allocated so change this according to what you need or want.
