Hi, everybody. I've been on The Tech Game for two months now since I came back and there have been times where people post certain threads about their depression, their anger, anything that has to do with emotional distress.

While some of you may ridicule these people for wanting to vent through the forums, they find solace on TTG. I also completely understand that some of you may not want to read topics such as those on a "gaming forum" because it doesn't fit here and there's no place for those types of topics. But this is the Off-Topic Discussion section of the forums, anything goes. If you don't like reading those types of posts, skim past them and continue on around the Forums.

Now, for the main purpose of this post. If any of you, not just the people who post about their emotional state, need any form of help; here are some places you could go to, to get advice and help in your very dire time of need. Rather than asking people who may not be so knowledgeable in mental health, you may want to refer to some of the sources I'll include in this topic. These are trusted and professional sources of knowledge and help.

Suicide Prevention Hotline

Suicidal thoughts are no joke and you MUST seek help immediately if you're going through this state. This site's and hotline's purpose is to educate about what may lead a person to suicide. You'll find a "Learn" section on the website that'll detail the warning signs, causes and all other information necessary to know about suicide.

Number:
1-800-273-8255
Learn more at the website and call if you feel comfortable enough to talk about it. Those people dedicate their lives to helping others in need of mental stability.

National Directory of Psychologists

On this website, you'll find a directory of a psychologist near you. It lists psychologists and what they practice in all 50 states, it also lists their respective websites if they have one.

Mental Health (Government Site)

This site is also dedicated to the education of the general public in what mental health is. You'll find a generous amount of information to educate yourself about this very serious topic.

If you feel that somebody around you is needing of emotional/mental help, please don't be afraid to share this information and also pass it along to your friends so they can share it and so on. You never know who may be needing help and is too scared or embarrassed to come forward and find help. Whoever needs help, remember that the help is out there and you should never be scared to express yourself.

If you know about any other websites or hotlines that provide help, please list them below and I'll add them to the main post. Thank you for reading and taking the time to add to the list.

I like the concept and all but I feel like this isn't really the sorta thing for TTG.

In no way am I discouraging this post, I think it's fab. Just seems a little unrelated to the site

You're right, it is unrelated. Just like the posts of depression are. Instead of having people post on here and then receive "help" from people who are uneducated about the subject, they could be referred to this and the help would be given. I understand this is a "gaming forum" but people come on here to speak about things other than gaming.

There are a lot of misconceptions about mental health and I believe, if people are going to ask for help (which people will one day or another), people should be educated before writing stuff down.

I'm in no way saying that this should be a stickied topic or any of the sort, I just consider it's important.

Bumping this seeing as the news of the suicide of Chester (lead singer for Linkin Park) has spread across the forums.

Whoever needs help or simply wants to educate themselves about mental health, depression and etcetera can go to the sites listed above.

Yes, I know this is a Gaming Forum; doesn't mean you can't educate yourself or get help.

You're welcome. Not many people enjoy seeing this topic here but oh well, I'm just trying to help out as much as I can.

Great thread bro, really an issue which needs addressing. In the UK and Ireland, the biggest killer amongst men under the age of 40 is suicide. The Samaritans are a UK and Ireland based organisation that have dedicated 24 lines to those feeling unsure.
