Shortly after take-off, heading towards Minsk, Belarus to play a KHL Game, the aircraft struck the top of a mast, causing the aircraft to catch fire. The damage, and fire would ultimately see the aircraft make ground impact less than 2 miles from the airport.

The investigation into what caused the aircraft to hit the mast, and make ground impact shortly after revealed that the pilot had accidently placed his foot on the brake whilst taking off, slowing the plane down and not allowing it to gain enough lift to clear the mast. The aircraft travelled over 1,000ft over the end of the runway before gaining lift, unfortunately the aircraft barely managed to reach 5 meters in altitude, resulting in the collision with the mast.

RIP Pavol Demitra. I remember him when he played for the Canucks and I think they have a whole memorial dedicated to him at Rogers Arena.
