I'm planning to build a pc primarily for Photoshop, Lightroom and Sibelius, and possibly the occasional bit of gaming (but, like, Minecraft and stuff). I'm hoping to keep this under 1000GBP. 600-800GBP would be amazing. I'm also quite new to this so I'm finding it hard to know what processor to choose and what makes one motherboard better than another. Graphics card wise, I'm looking at a gtx 1050 or 1050ti, which should deliver the resolution I want (I'm looking into quad hd monitors, around 21"-27") but I can't find any information on what role the graphics card has in colour accuracy, which is, of course, very important for me. Is this card overkill? I'm looking at 16gb of RAM - DDR3 or 4 is something I haven't done much research into yet. Is there an obvious choice? Definitely going for an ssd, and I'll put in a hdd as well for more storage. Already have a keyboard, mouse and external sound card. Any advice?

Most of the budget here has gone towards a really nice monitor. H310 and B360 motherboards launch soon(hopefully within a month), so I'd wait for those and save an easy £30-50 on motherboard. With a H310/B360 mobo, the system itself is only £500-550. 8GB RAM will be fine for now, and then you can add another 8GB once RAM prices come back down.

Thanks! I've been looking at the i5 8400, as lightroom is very cpu-heavy, but how big a difference is there between it and what you've recommended? I'll probably take your advice about ram though. I think I'd rather go for 256 on the SSD, but that shouldn't add a massive amount to the price. I'll look out for those mobos, cheers for the heads up. It'll be a few months before I can afford any of this anyway. And in terms of monitors, do you think it would be hard to find a smaller monitor with a wider gamut (same res) for a similar price?

You can get a U2515H. It's the same monitor, but 25" instead of 27". It's only £20 less though so I'd just get the U2715H. It's a really good monitor for the price for photo editing. You can get the i5-8400 instead of the i3-8100 if you don't mind spending the extra £75.

Here's the system with a larger SSD, i5, and different monitor;

The U2715H is still the better monitor for you IMO, but the LG monitor in this is 4k instead of 1440p, and £50 cheaper.
