As the Extreme Cold Warning continues in Ottawa, we've been given the dubious honour of being the world's coldest capital city.

At 6 a.m. on Thursday the temperature was sitting at -27C, meaning Ottawa beat out Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia and Nuuk in Greenland for being the coldest capital.

Absolutely a privilege to live in Canada.

Odd they used capitals only, think it would be more interesting to towns as a whole, because I swear to god Neryungri, Russia was like -37c earlier today lol

Edit: Zhigansk, Russia was -41c a few hours ago

I don't even know what I'd do in that weather. The coldest it gets for me is very, very close to freezing in the middle of the night.
