Well some Servers have some UI related issues that can cause freezing and buffer overflow in the HUD. But this seems different, have you tried changing your KV yet? Also what server are you currently running. The server shouldn't matter but just curious. You always could reflash the nand and see if that fixes it. The $ystemupdate could maybe be corrupted?? I would try changing your KV and then do the avatar update and see what happens.
