Explained it all in the title. Just finished basic coming back into the real world and I'm trying to buy a bike to get around my base but not really travel too far. I rode dirt bikes and atvs all my childhood so I'm familiar with riding but I never owned a motorcycle so I'm clueless with shopping for one.

I haven't really looked around much but I like slimmer street bikes like these [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] . I'm not sure if used or new is good for beginners either. Budget is probably around $7k

Any suggestions or tips are appreciated!

All depends on what license you have, are you from the UK?

I've been riding for years, a good thing to keep in mind is your weight, if you're a bigger fellow, say around 250+ I would completely disregard 300cc and under, my first bike was a CBR600 and it was a very good starter bike. I'm 6'2 and 230lbs, and it carried me with no problems whatsoever. I'd say get a 500 or 600cc, since youve been riding dirt bikes before I'd say you'd be fine on a 650cc just don't treat it like a dirt bike because even though they're both on two wheels, a sports bike is a completely different animal. I'd go to a local motorcycle shop, and tell them you're looking for a starting bike and tell them your budget and experience and I'm sure they can help you find the right one for you
