Tokyo Ghoul Season 1

So now that Tokyo Ghoul:re is airing this spring, I decided to re-watch the first two seasons of Tokyo Ghoul, and I just finished season 1. This happened because as I was watching Tokyo Ghoul:re, I was divinely inspired to re-watch the first two seasons lol. So I wanted to share some of my thoughts about the first season with you guys, especially now that I've seen it twice, and season 3 is out.

It has been so much nostalgia for me, as it has been a few years since I first watched it. It's making me realize how far some of the characters have come. ALSO, I got to listen to the Tokyo Ghoul season 1 opening a bunch of times again, so that was an added bonus (seriously, that song is like crack to me).

I want to tell you guys how much I love the characters in this anime. Not all of them got very good development, but we get to know a lot about Kaneki and Touka, who are the two main characters. I do wish we got more development of the other characters, at least in season 1, because we don't really know too much about them. What I really like about Ken, is that he feels like such a "real" character to me; he has his reasons for everything, and as we learn more about him, the way he has lived his life makes perfect sense. I love the type of character he is. In season 1 he goes from timid nerd to badass.

My favorite scene of season 1 has to be the last episode. The cutaways from the torture scene with Jason, to the inside of his mind with Rize are fantastic. I got so entrenched in the story, as Rize tore apart his beliefs, and showed him a new better way to think about life, all while we learn what happened to Kaneki in the past. His way of thinking completely changes; it goes from "it's better to get hurt than to hurt others," to "sometimes one thing must be given up in order to sacrifice the other." This is a more realistic way of thought that allows him to become stronger and make the right decisions. I'm delving into this scene quite a bit, simply because it's probably my favorite part of season 1.

As mentioned, I really enjoyed the first opening, like a lot of people. The ending is catchy as well. That being said, the overall soundtrack was pretty average for me.

In addition, I liked the action and violent fight scenes. They were entertaining to me. Seeing the different powers of the Ghouls and the weapons that the CCG use (quinque), is pretty interesting.

Additionally, I want to state that I have read the manga for season 1, which might have affected my opinion on this.

I give season 1 a 7/10. This might be a bit generous, especially when you take some of the plot and character development aspects into account, but I personally really enjoyed it.

Did you guys like season 1?

What did he think? I'm almost done with re-watching season 2 right now. The only thing I'm confused about, is how the season 2 story lines up with season 3.

I've heard that not everything in season 2 is cannon.

Kaneki got more character development in 10 episodes of season one than the entire cast through 3 seasons. Coulda used more femdom Toka pinning him against a wall but I dont think that would be allowed on Toonami

Cant wait for cour 2 of season 3 to start up next month things are heating up
