Ever since the release of Fortnite, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) has been trying its best to put up a good competition when it comes to popularity. Well, it seems Bluehole Studios is taking an approach similar to the one being used by Epic Games. We say this because PUBG's latest update has brought in features which look suspiciously similar to the ones available in Fortnite.

It's as simple as this. Fortnite would not be a thing without PubG.

well Fortnite itself wasn't really a success, sure people played it but it wasn't half as big as PubG or any other game, but yes I mean battle Royale, not just Fortnite as a whole, I just say Fortnite as anyone / everyone knows it for Battle Royale, they call it Fortnite still

As far as I'm aware, Fortnite Royale was just a cash grab riding on pubgs success and pubg tried to sue them for it? Not sure if that's fully correct but that's all I remember when Fortnite first came out. Fortnite only did well because it's a f2p and it's more appealing to children.
I've never understood this whole " THEY'RE COPYING " thing. Every single game copies/uses ideas from other games. It's all about making your game better. If a game has a good idea that's doing well, then another game will try and follow that idea to improve their own.

PUBG came first, which was also just a copy of every other slightly successful game over the last few years.
difference is FBR is F2P with no micro transactions that affect gameplay

Don't correct people when you aren't correct yourself hehehe
But yeah it seems PUBG is exploring all new ideas to keep up with the hype of Fortnite imo. It'll never catch up tbh.

Whilst this is true...
Pubg made / worked on half the games that they took things from, Such As h1z1 and I think Arma Mod? or something like that, not to sure as I never really played any of those

So the article raises the question of whether PUBG is copying Fortnite in the updates under 2 points.
1. The all-new parachute skins. Though these are different from the ones in Fortnite, the concept is the same.
2. Random golden chests scattered all around the new PUBG map.
Let's tackle them one at a time.
1. 'Skin' cosmetics as a whole were not originally created by Fortnite, and has been a great money making system for many games prior to these two e.g. Counter-Strike and H1Z1. It was inevitable that skins were to be released on PUBG and many initial players were aware of this due to clothing being available.
- So is the concept the same? Yes. Are they copying Fortnite? No, they are copying every other successful game that has made millions from non-advantage virtual cosmetics.
2. Gold chests are simply another container that provides loot.
That is an image of King Tutankhamun's Painted Chest from the years 1332-1323 BC. Perhaps PUBG is copying Tutankhamun.
- Just because Fortnite introduced chests as their form of loot delivery, does not mean these are original ideas to be copied from them, PUBG already had loot crates, the big red airplane delivery.
So the answer, no PUBG is not copying Fortnite because they would have to be Fortnite's original ideas. Non-advantage cosmetics were used long before the battle royale scene, and treasure chests in Fortnite are merely an adaptation of PUBG's red crates.
