Just gonna copy paste what i posted on toms hardware.

I dont know whats wrong with my overclock (4.6 @1.26v).
It passes stress tests like prime95(i know prime95 past 26.6 isnt that great for tests) and realbench but i get random crashes when just browsing something like youtube or twitch. (not a bsod just a complete crash)
After stress testing yesterday i decided to game on it and see if i would have any issues and i didn't. I played csgo,fortnite,gta5,arma3 and i had no issues. It seems the crashes are completely random. What could be causing this? I am VERY new to overclocking so maybe there are other settings in bios i overlooked. From what i know all i changed was the core voltage and the clock speed and set it to override instead of auto.

System Specs
MSI g55 z97 SLI
i7 4790k
gtx 970
550w psu
16gb 1600mhz corsair vengeance
Corsair h110i GT
samsung 840 evo 250gb
seagate barracuda black 2tb

(2nd post)
My pc just crashed AGAIN (no bsod). I have upped the voltage TWICE MORE (1.265 to 1.27) and stress tested and my pc passes the test but i get these random crashes while my pc is under 0 load. I only had chrome open looking at my email. I dont understand it someone help me please LOL. At this point do i even need to keep upping my voltage? my pc was stable under 100% load when i was at 1.26 but every time i get these random crashes i up it by 0.05 hoping it would fix it.

Can any TTG gods help me here

How long are you testing when you are stress testing? Just once? Have you tried using something a little more stressful like AIDA64?

Another thing to check is making sure your RAM is still set to stock speeds and not overclocked. Some BIOSs have auto overclocking features and they either use timings too high, or add too much voltage to things making your overclock less stable then it could be.

How are you overclocking to get to your speed. If you're bassclock overclocking then remove it. Go straight for the multiplier overclock since bassclock changes RAM speeds which could cause instability.

Else, keep ramping up the volts. You might of hit a voltage wall where you'll need a lot more volts to get it stable. 1.27V for that CPU is nothing mind you, you'll be very much safe to carry on till around 1.35v. Keep and eye on your motherboard and CPU temps.

Any fsb overclock you have , remove for now.

work on the multiplayer , id say 47 x 100 48 at most with water (aio unit)

Then start to drop your voltage down untill you bsod and revert to the last stable

Were adam is right with the fsb oc effecting ram he seems to have forgotten two things, 1. if the ram does over clock, you can drop the speed to be around were it was stable allowing for fsb overclocking to stay for that extra 1-6% base speed boost, some can even get a added 15% just from that (115 instead of 100(100/300 typically - you can get higher but your need insanely decent ram and a good wide bus width graphics card))

And two, you can actually put in 1.55v, some can take 1.6-7 but never higher than 1.7 but your want to delid, lap, liquid metal and custom loop, or Ln cooling

id try 1.4, 24 hour test and drop in increments of .2 until unstable if your looking to keep 4.6ghz
