I've trained boxing, muay thai and Taekwondo. Only did Muay thai for about six months though so it doesn't really count, Taekwondo and Boxing for 5+ years.
Honestly, I'm not a big fan of any ground martial arts because the last thing you want to do in the street is go to the ground. Imagine you have someone in an armbar and his buddies come running over and start trying to stomp on your head, you've instantly lost the fight. Better to be standing up constantly and be able to run if necesarry in my opinion.
With regards to competition fights though, BJJ is possibly the best martial arts you can do.

I've been to one BJJ class, and I'd start tomorrow if I could afford it; it's definitely worth checking out for sure.

Yeah the sport side is why I'm into it. It's always useful to be able to control people too, but maybe don't armbar anyone in the streets.

Gracie Barra in Texas, and I just tried it for a class, I wouldn't call it training xD

Is it worth taking classes? Or is it a waste of money

Awesome, them gyms are all over the place and have some high level instructors!
For sure! I was told about it by a friend of a friend who trained there; and the head instructor is a 5th degree black belt, and he fought in Strikeforce, which I thought was pretty cool xD
5th degree is legit as ****! Hope you find a way to train properly mate!
