Macro keys are keys that can be "recorded over" so you can tell the keyboard that that key now is the same as the F1 key for example so now the Macro key when pressed does whatever F1 does. This can be utilised to do gaming actions faster because you can say make the button or getting the stairs in fornite one of the buttons and now you hit that button and you have stairs.

Key strokes are just button presses.

Potentially, it depends on the game and the position of the Macros so mine are all to the left of the board in a line so i can keep my little finger on them and press them which allows quicker presses for the keys they are set as.

You have to get used to them but they can 100% be useful regardless of button remaps because there are only so many buttons you can hit fast while doing other things.
