Painting is expensive and often ruins the value of the car if you wish to resell at some point.

Wrap is just as expensive and doesn't last very long. Plastidip would be the cheap alternative.

The life expectancy of a wrap is 7-10 years, which is pretty good considering you can see newer cars with worse paint in your day to day activities.

As for Plastidip. It's tacky, and likely doesn't come in the f80 blue colour he was looking for. Wraps are pretty easily colour matched.


OP: If this is still happening, you'd probably be better of waiting. No point in spending money on a car you plan on moving on down the road within the near future.

7 to 10 years? Definitely not on a daily driver, maybe a weekend warrior. The answer to a car wrap's longevity depends on many factors. These include things like sun exposure, frequency of washing, and more. If your vehicle is out in the sun at work all day or in the driveway over the weekends, the wrap will last a shorter amount of time.

A daily driven car exposed to constant sun and heat will last approximately 2 years at most. If you happen to park in the shade usually, this could potentially increase durability to 3 - 4 years.

Another thing about wrapping a car is when you get a door ding, it's more likely to tear the wrap resulting in the panel needing to be replaced. If you get a little rock chip, how are you going to color it in? I don't know if you follow DDE (daily driven exotics) or streetspeed717, but both of these guys have wraps on their cars / trucks and they get destroyed pretty frequently because they are driven daily.

Sorry, kind of an old topic but thought I'd pitch in some information. If you're dead set on the color you want, and still looking for a cheaper option, most high schools or more preferably.. colleges, will paint your car with no labor attached. Meaning you wont pay the thousands of dollars to paint your car. The college I go to in Wahpeton, North Dakota which is an Auto Tech and Auto Body school, only charge you for the price of the paint, and a small shop fine of like $80.. this also applies to Auto Tech.. we'll change your tires or do anything else for free, you just have to pay the shop fee and price of item. I wouldn't have a high school do it obviously, they're usually less experienced, but if you want to go the cheaper route, I'd bring it to a college or some auto body school if you have one near you. Hope this helped a little. If you go this route, you'd be looking at spending less than $2000, not sure how much that paint is tho.. could be a lot less or more. Had a friend whose truck had the whole vehicle re-painted for $900.
