I mostly use my pc for Eve Online, Starcraft, and Warcraft when I get the urge to play a game that I know i will quit in 3 months anyway, yet again.

I have seen many different websites post about 'cheap' pc builds for games. I have all these on low settings which takes some of the fun out of it. The sites give details for builds that to an amateur at this stuff, seems like a good deal. I'm not looking to have the best on the market, just enough to enjoy my games and not have to upgrade at an overhaul level for at least 2 years or so.

So, are they viable?

Heres an example.

Nope, most of the people posting blogs and shit about "console kiiler" PCs don't have a clue what they're talking about.

If you're reading a website that has employee's who do actually know what they're talking about, they're probably not going to post an article about a PC for a set budget because they know it won't make sense in like a couple of weeks to buy the same stuff since prices are always changing and new stuff is always being released.

In the example you've posted, they've used a Celeron for some reason, in 2018. That's just laughable and I feel bad for anyone who took their advice. Unfortunately that one can't even be blamed on being an old suggestion since it's a day old, dude just doesn't have a clue at all- at least not with this $400 system anyway.

Typically if you're spending less than $400, I'm going to recommend looking in to used hardware, at least for the GPU, because you'll get much better value that way.

Ignoring articles about "$400 console killer" etc, yeah, a $400-500 system would be fine, if that's your budget. You could spend as little or as much as you'd like, though I'm going to say $200 is the absolute minimum you'll be able to build a PC for that isn't complete dog shit, and at that price you'd have to be buying everything used and getting some great deals.

I've seen some pretty questionable articles on cheap gaming PC's but wow.

This one blows them all away lol. I don't know how anyone can say running an Intel Celeron would be a Console Killer, and as for the GPU, it may be a 10 series, but the price tells you everything. £100 for a 2 year old GPU is an instant no go.

CPU's are a hard one when on a budget, Ryzen's are talked about as a very good cheap gaming CPU, although I myself don't particularly rate AMD CPU's at all, I would still get a Ryzen over a Celeron xd. Ryzen 5 1500x is a good budget processor, pick them up for around £150 and would run most games at 60fps with ease. If you are looking at Intel, i5's are your best bet for cheap but well performing. Although finding one cheap is the hard part.

If you are on a budget, the minimum you can get for AAA titles coming 2019 is probably the 1060 6gb. Maybe the 1050 Ti at a push (all depends on your choice of games.) You may even go with a AMD Radeon RX 570 (£160-£190) which does actually perform as well as the 3gb edition of the 1060 or the 1050 Ti.

To come to a conclusion, spending £400 as oppose to £800 on a PC isn't saving you £400, it's you wasting £400. Just keep that in mind

Hope I helped a little.

Thanks for the replies. I wouldve taken something like that build seriously. Looking to drop about 4 or 5 hundred into a build. I have a case and monitor so not needed. Had a good deal at a rent to own store. I know they charge more but it would work out of the box.

Payments would make it more attainable.
