The earth will be impacted, no doubt about that...However, the time it does happen, we will not have to be living on this Earth anymore...

We will be traveling other dimensions/universes..

I mean, think about it, really....Think of the technology and how things were in 1900...No picture how much we have accomplished in 100 years...

Imagine 50 more years of us rapidly progressing..

OK so by what I've learned, 2012 was never predicted to be the year of the end of the world. These assumptions came from the people who were interpreting the Mayan calendars. When Mayans made their calendars, they had different intervals where a new calendar would begin. But when the Mayans got to 2012, they never made a new calendar. This does not mean that they were at all predicting the end of the world. We all know that the Mayans somehow just disappeared long ago nobody knows why though. Theoretically, the Mayans could have disappeared around the time of when the new interval was being created.

This is what I was told by my teacher who is brilliant. No one knows for sure though.
