Yes, it was because the computers, were thought to, not recognize the year 2000 and since computer controlled almost everything, including government and military, the world had a chance of being throw in to a form of major disaster. Since nothing happened we can only imagine what could have happened.

The world has ended like 100 times already

They said it's also going to end in 2038 sometime in January. It won't happen then either. We will wait and see. If the world ends in 2012, life wasted in school.
