-This works both Windows and Mac, Just download the right version of GIMP for your software-


This Tutorial is on how to make a moving image (.GIF) for free with the photoshop tool GIMP

1. Download GIMP -
Windows version on Gimp - [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Mac - [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Run the installastion process and start up GIMP (May take a while the first time)

2.
Once Gimp is open, 3 windows should appear, click the manipulation guide window,
Click the File menu, then new

Create the dimensions of your picture 200 pixels by 200 pixels, click OK

4.
In the Layers window, the background layer should appear now.
On the Manipulation window a white screen with a box marked out is shown,
This is one frame of the picture, select paint btush (ETC) and design a first frame.

Once done, Right click in the Layers tab and select new layer,
Make the dimensions 200 by 200 if they are not, select White background and click OK

Click on the Eye button next to the blank, new layer to make it appear,
Then design the next frame of the .GIF.

!Repeat steps 5-6 until you have all your desired frames!

7.
Double click each layer and in brackets next to the name of the layer add a time a milliseconds (ms) for each frame E.g Layer name Background (200ms)

8.
To check that it is working, go to the Filters menu, Animation, Select playback.
It shall play the .GIF made (If you have done the previous steps correctly)

9.
Now we must save it as a .GIF file,
Go to File, save as, select a destination for the picture to be saved and name
the picture something, BUT PUT .GIF AT THE END WITHOUT A SPACE BETWEEN THE NAME
E.g Picture Name is animation, save it as animation.gif!

10.
A window will appear,
Click save as animation, then export, then for the next window to pop up click save

Then the Picture will be saved to the location you picked!

Nice use print screen as some people may not be able to understand these instructions.

The pictures with highlighted pen tool would help simplify the instructions

I made my very avatar with GIMP. Great program.
I know it doesn't match my username, but I use that everywhere else.
I'd add pics to your tutorial if I were you.
