It depends what variable you're solving for.

Solving for y:

4y = 2x - 2

divide everything by 4

y = (2x - 2) / 4

simplified: y = (x - 1) / 2

solving for x:

4y = 2x - 2

add 2 to everything

4y + 2 = 2x

divide everything by 2

(4y + 2) / 2 = x

simplified: x = 2y + 1

Hope this helps

4y = x - 2

make the minus a positive

make 2 negative 2

4y = x + -2

add 2 to both sides

6y = x

there you go

Function of y: f(y)=2y+1

Function of x: f(x)=(x-1)/2

K i've had enough algebra for the night :/
