We all have our opinions, just like saying Ford vs Chevy, Import vs Muscle, its all opinions man. Lol. I just feel like people underestimate automatics way too much. It is all opinions though that's true. Like previously said, there are a lot more factors to it than just the state of it being an automatic or manual transmission. |

Let's get back on topic, shall we? Back to posting pics of our rides. This auto/manual debate could last ages. |

But the point on where more people use auto's in drag racing? that's a joke and not true at all. |

Z28 wrote OKAY. i got to butt in on this one.
So Mr.Racing expert, What kind of drag racing do you watch? High school drag racing? Im really curious. It's people like you who ruin this topic for people because you reply to somebody's comment without properly reading what they've said. I never said I was a "racing expert" first of all. I said that in a drag race an automatic car would most likely beat a manual car because of the shift time consistency. If you even have any knowledge about cars you would know that most drag racing cars are automatics. So if two of the same cars were drag racing an you have an automatic and a manual like I said, chances are that the automatic car is going to have the advantage unless you have someone who is ridiculously quick at shifting gears. And as I said before in any other race a manual would have the advantage over the automatic. I suggest you do some research, "Mr. Racing expert". z06vette.com/forums/f4/faster-dra...ual-53203/ ls1tech.com/forums/general-mainte...anual.html youtube.com/watch?v=JrCachFqD38 youtube.com/watch?v=6VVPDS8Qeig thirdgen.org/techboard/organized-...-auto.html forums.corral.net/forums/s-197-mu...stang.html - (First comment) Most true drag cars are manuals actually, if your dragging a 2013 mustang then it could be auto. And honestly manual is better at the track, if you actually know how to drive stick consistently then you can blow any auto out of the water. Sorry but that's completely wrong, but I always say to each his own. You can argue all day about the what ifs and compare built racing tranny's to conventional stock trannies, many variables so no real point in arguing using auto/manual is better theory. Anytime a car is faster than an 11.0 or so, it's VERY difficult to keep up with an automatic. A properly built automatic, with C4's, TH400's and Powerglides being the most common. You have to keep in mind its hard to keep up especially when there are hybrids out there 2-speed - 5-speeds with a converter, its hard to keep up, autos do lose some HP but pick up a few 10th on ET, the war on auto/manual is really just a battle of who is more ignorant to the facts. hugh horsepower cars like Pro-Stock do use manual but most other classes that compete for straight line time slips are all going to build a auto trans over a manual, on the other hand a manual is a more popular option at the track. I drive a manual because its a Daily driver and I prefer it but I was spending tons of money to shave seconds off my time a auto is a better option. That's why when people start drag racing you see them a lot of times swapping there manual trans for a auto and building it up with crazy shift points and high stall converters and trans brakes things that are undoable with a cut& dry manual transmission. |
