cool post but putting it as a conspiracy is annoying af, trivializes the science if you know what i mean |

Fold wroteGrimscribe wrote I'll just say that satellites are one thing, sending a probe to Mars is another, and developing telescopes powerful enough to photograph another galaxy with incredible detail is another again. It's genuinely unbelievable to me that you don't see how the study of space has saved and improved millions and millions of lives There is a difference between studying space in order to help people and studying it for the sake of it. Name one person on Earth whose life has been saved by sending a probe to Mars, or landing a probe on a comet? I can show you millions who were inconvenienced by the decision to spend money on those endeavors and many others like them. You are making the argument that we should spend money on space travel and study because it will benefit future generations, but this is faulty logic in my opinion. This approach condemns potentially hundreds of thousands of people to poverty and death over theoretical science which may or may not come to fruition. Let's spend hundreds of thousands of dollars finding a habitable planet when we don't even have the technology to send humans to another solar system yet. But really the entire point that you are putting forward is based on the idea that humans will and should continue to live and flourish if we just study hard enough. My view is one which you are going to think is crazy and no amount of reasoning will bring you to believe it. Humans should, out of ethical considerations, spend all money available on housing and feeding people who are currently alive for as long as Earth manages to last for. Whether it gets hit by a meteor, a nuclear war wipes us all out, or climate change has its way with all of us, that should be the end of it . When we go, we all go. There's no point in prolonging the inevitable death of our species by bouncing from planet to planet and condemning more people to suffer and die for untold numbers of generations when we can give people alive right now lives worth living here on Earth. It is easy to condemn people living in poverty when you aren't the one living in poverty. It's easy to say, "It's for the future generations" and act like you are the one being generous, but really you are just making people poorer than you be generous on your behalf. Don't get me wrong though, if I was as optimistic about the future as you are then I would agree, but I'm not, so I don't. This is one of the few topics regarding science and the application of science where what we view as truth is predicated on our opinion, rather than the other way around. |

How big is the universe? (Discussion)
(Or some other pause between the two words) But in answer to your topic, about 35 posts (at the moment) |

As much as I want to be fascinated about how large it is, I really wanna see what's outside the universe, like if it's just bright light or if there are larger creatures that control the universe, or if we are just a miniverse almost like Rick and Morty as if we are in a little box being carried around by superior beings or something. |
